The room waits on its curtain

When a patient with a highly transmissible illness leaves an isolation room, the bed can be stripped and the floor can be cleaned in a shift. The cubicle curtain is the slow part. A curtain that hung beside that patient is compromised, and the room cannot go back into use until it is changed.

Accord Curtains built this program for the Environmental Services director who gets that call at an awkward hour and needs the curtain handled by someone who is already close. The aim, in Accord's own words, is the fastest possible curtain removal and cleaning service we can provide.

Installers already on the floor

Our uniformed installers are on site or nearby, ready to take the incoming call. When it comes, an installer arrives in mask, gown and gloves with the ladder, takes the curtain down off the ceiling track and carries it out for cleaning at 801 Busch Court.

Environmental Services hands over responsibility for that curtain at the door. Your staff keep working the room, and the isolation protocol stays yours. We do the part that needs a ladder, a track hook and a cart.

The program itself is set up with your Environmental Services and Infection Control staff before the first call ever comes in.

A clean curtain back on the track

The cleaned curtain goes back up on the same ceiling track, or a spare hangs in its place if the room needs to open first. Either way the woven label on the curtain is scanned at take-down and again at re-hang, so the record shows who handled which room and when.

Accord began on-call isolation discharge service in 2013. In 2020 the same crews ran isolation curtain room pickups for an Ohio hospital system during COVID-19. The detailed report after each job goes to the people who ask for it, not into a drawer.
